FEES INCREMENT ISSUE IN ALL NATIONS UNIVERSITY TAKES ANOTHER TURN

SRC MET 7^TH AND 8^TH SEMESTER CONCERNED STUDENTS FOR A MORE SOLID DECISION

he impromptu increment of fees in All Nations University has taken another turn. After an unsuccessful boycott plan by the student body, The Student Representative Council came together with a group of concerned Seventh and Eight Semester students to take a concise decision. After a 45 minute dialogue, the suggestion was that, The SRC and the students should refrain from boycott or violence and resort to a dialogue with the President of the school (Rev. Dr. Samuel Donkor) to settle the issue amicably.

Other alternatives were voiced out to alleviate the situation of which most ended up to having a dialogue with the President of the school with a set of “matured” students.

This has necessitated a meeting with the whole student body which will consist of Regular, Evening and Weekend students today (Friday, 24 September 2010) at 6:30 pm.

We are expecting candid decision out of this meeting to resolve the matter.

The unsuccessful boycott was due to failure of a section of the student body (approximately 10%) to comply with the order.

It can be recalled that fees were increased on Tuesday 7^th September 2010 without prior notice. Students were asked to pay the difference between the initial amount and the increment proposed, within this semester. This led the student body to agitate with the view that, the increment is accepted but payment within the semester was too harsh and untimely since no prior information was given before the semester began.

An interview granted by a media house with the President of the School however unfolded another story that, students were informed 2 – 3 months ago and that All Nations International Development Agency (ANIDA) a Non Governmental Organisation linked with All Nations Full Gospel Church and the University, used to subsidize fees for students making each student pay an appreciable amount between 500 and 600 Ghana Cedis per semester. He stressed that due to the current increase in utility tariffs there was a need for an increment.

STUDENTS TO BOYCOTT LECTURES

Through our powerful lenses, we captured that students of All Nations University are planning to embark on a boycott action from 11 am, Wednesday 22nd September 2010 until further notice. This action will continue for a reasonable period until the Management of the school finally settles on meeting the student body to trash the issue out. This action became necessary after management increased the fees within this semester and asked students to pay the balance with immediate effect. We have our ears on the ground for more information. A hint proves that students will put on red clothing on Wednesday to show how serious they are about the situation.
